Gus Hansen experienced an amazing year on the WPT where he was the only gambler to achieve last poker table in three of the competitions. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he paid $400, 000 to play. You might remember one of the largest pots in high stakes poker history competing against Daniel Negreanu. Hansen raked in a massive pot with quads against Negreanu’s full house. Gus has earned many tv poker appearances and is deemed to be one of the strongest gamblers anywhere in the world. While competing in internet poker, another side of Hansen has appeared. He frequently competes in the 200/400 NL maximum buy-in of Forty Thousand dollars. Hansen generally buys-in for the minimum of $16, 000 and plays very weak. He waits for a decent hand and then goes all-in. I believe Hansen is an amazing poker player but certainly not even close to the regular players at 200/400NL. Unless he is bankrupt, he has no reason to play at the game with the minimum buy-in.
Buying in for the minimum takes most of the skill out of deep stack poker. Gus is assumed to be one of the best players anywhere in the world but he cannot buy in for the full dollar value. I believe television can alter our perception of the real world every now and then. The greatest poker players anywhere in the world might just be players you have never heard about. Gus can be found wagering on internet poker on Full Tilt. He normally participates in big stakes Omaha and hold’em. Gus Hansen has shown himself as a tournament player.
