Phil Ivey has been referred to as the greatest poker competitor on the globe by quite a few of the top pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before reaching the age of 1. His papa taught him one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to pickup everything he possibly could about the game. He routinely told his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He didn’t permit the adverse comments from other people annihilate his goal of being one of the strongest poker competitors on the planet.
Phil started playing intently after acquiring a false ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his skills at the casinos of Atlantic City. The initial few years for Phil were a learning period and coming away with a win was not a common thing at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP where he made 2 final tables and came away with his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he destroyed many of the well known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He made a decision to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Sin City. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Phil credits his achievements to hard work and an immeasurable love for the game of poker. He states that he is learning every day and is very humble about his accomplishments. He admits to making blunders in each session of poker and constantly aspires to improve.
Even though Ivey has come first in some big-time tournaments, he likes winning cash games on a regular basis.
