Gus Hansen experienced a wonderful year on the WPT where he was the only one to make it to the last table in 3 of the events. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he paid $400, 000 to play. You might remember one of the largest pots in big stakes poker recorded history competing against Daniel Negreanu. Hansen secured a massive pot with 4 of a kind against Negreanu’s full house. Gus has earned many televised poker appearances and is deemed to be one of the best bettors anywhere in the world. While participating in net poker, a different side of Hansen has been seen. He often plays in the 200/400 NL max buy in of $40, 000. Hansen usually buys in for the minimum of $16, 000 and gambles very weak. He waits for a decent hand and then goes all in. I believe Hansen is an excellent poker player but certainly not even close to the regular players at 200/400NL. Unless Gus is flat broke, he has no reason to settle at the game with the minimum buy in.
Playing for the min takes almost all of the expertise out of deep stack poker. Hansen is supposed to be 1 of the best poker players anywhere in the world but he can’t buy in for the full dollar value. I believe television can skew our view of the real world every now and then. The greatest poker players in the world might be players you have will not have heard of. Gus can be seen competing in internet poker on Full Tilt. He usually plays in high stakes omaha hold’em and texas holdem. Gus has shown himself as a tournament player. Can he use his talents in money games?
