Gus Hansen had an amazing year on the WPT where he was the only player to make it to the final game in 3 of the tournaments. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You might recall one of the biggest pots in high stakes poker history up against Daniel Negreanu. He raked in a big pot with 4 of a kind against Negreanu’s full house. Gus has earned many tv poker appearances and is deemed to be one of the best gamblers anywhere in the world. While competing in web poker, another side of Hansen has appeared. He often participates in the 200/400 No Limit maximum buy-in of Forty Thousand dollars. Gus frequently buys-in for the min of Sixteen Thousand dollars and gambles very poorly. He sits there waiting for a good hand and then pushes all in. I believe Hansen is a great poker player but not even close to the everyday players at 200/400no limit. Unless he is broke, he has little or no reason to settle at the game with the minimum buy in.
Playing for the minimum takes most of the ability out of big stack poker. Hansen is assumed to be one of the best poker players in the world but he cannot buy-in for the full amount. I think tv can skew our perception of the real world every now and then. The best poker players anywhere in the world might just be players you have never heard of before. Gus can be found competing in internet poker on Full Tilt. He generally plays in high stakes omaha hi-low and hold’em. Gus has shown himself as a tournament player. Can he use his abilities in money rounds?
