Gus Hansen experienced a wonderful year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only participant to make it to the final poker table in three of the competitions. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You may recall one of the largest pots in big stakes poker history up against Daniel Negreanu. He won a massive pot with quads against Negreanu’s full house. Gus has made many tv poker appearances and is considered to be one of the greatest gamblers in the world. While gambling on net poker, a different side of Hansen has emerged. Gus often competes in the 200/400 NL maximum buy-in of $40, 000. Hansen generally buys in for the minimum of Sixteen Thousand dollars and plays very poorly. He waits for a good hand and then pushes all in. I believe Gus is an amazing poker player but not even close to the regular players at 200/400no limit. Unless Gus is broke, he has little or no reason to sit at the game with the min buy in.
Playing for the min takes a majority of the expertise out of big stack poker. Hansen is accepted to be one of the best poker players anywhere in the world but he cannot buy-in for the full dollar value. I think tv can skew our perception of the real world every now and then. The greatest players anywhere in the world might just be players you have never heard about. Gus can be seen betting on online poker on Full Tilt. He usually competes in high stakes omaha hi-low and Holdem. Gus has proven himself as a competition player. Can he back up his abilities in cash games?
