I’ve been betting poker now for about 5 years, I have bet cards my entire life beginning with games of Gin Rummy for pennies with my Grand Mother, to all of the various types of Brag and general random games such as Go Fish, Crash and one so gracefully called, card on head game. I used to always win, whatever casino game we were betting and although I liked to call it skill, it was quite tough to justify considering the randomness of the games we were playing, so I was happy to accept I was having an extended run of good fortune.
Then came Poker, or a lot more importantly Holdem Poker, made popular by a bunch of Texas card gamblers in the 60’s and since developed into one of the largest card phenomena ever witnessed. Poker is totally the new black, it can be super awesome with a lot of of the world’s leading celebrities racing to have their name connected with it. Just a quick scan through the TV channels nowadays and it is possible to not escape from poker, and certainly there’s the fabled WSOP, the Holy Grail and Mecca all rolled into one for each and every single player.
So with all of this new found popularity, with so quite a few Television programmes devoted to poker, and magazine and book shelves loaded up with high quality material written by the top minds on poker, when are folks going to learn that this game is all about position!?
Perhaps I must not receive so worked up about this, after all the additional persons who struggle with the subtle techniques and strategies required for succeeding regularly at Hold em, the better it really is for everyone else, appropriate? I mean, if they can’t be troubled to read all of the accessible data about why placement is so crucial, why really should we bother? We must just be happy there’s one more fish at the table!
It is true, we should not encourage idleness with advice and support. On the other hand, I liken this to a welcoming game of football.
