Gus Hansen experienced a wonderful year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only participant to make it to the final table in three of the tournaments. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You may remember one of the biggest pots in big stakes poker recorded history competing against Daniel Negreanu. Gus secured a large pot with quads against Negreanu’s full house. Hansen has earned many tv poker appearances and is thought to be one of the best bettors around the world. While playing net poker, a different side of Hansen has appeared. Gus frequently participates in the 200/400 No Limit max buy-in of $40, 000. Gus more often than not buys in for the min of $16, 000 and gambles very weak. He waits for a decent hand and then pushes all in. I believe Gus is a great poker player but certainly not even close to the regular players at 200/400NL. Unless Gus is penniless, he has no reason to sit at the table with the minimum buy-in.

Buying in for the min takes most of the expertise out of big stack poker. Hansen is supposed to be 1 of the best players in the world but he cannot buy in for the total dollar value. I believe television can skew our view of the real world at times. The greatest poker players in the world may be players you have will not have heard of. Gus can be seen betting on net poker on Full Tilt. He generally plays in high stakes omaha hi-low and texas hold’em. Gus has proven himself as a competition player. Can he use his skills in money rounds?
